A service for everyone
If you are familiar with Circle Time, you will understand how good it is to have the opportunity to talk with others about our experiences, without fear of interruption, but in small bursts. Clutching a conch shell, 4 groups of 5 of us met together in February to study Psalm 139. Revd Vicki Davies led our Bible study at Christ Church. “God has made us wonderful” but life is not always easy or straightforward. We can learn much from listening to others.
Then on Friday 7th March, we were ready to join with many more to hear the experiences of three ladies from the Cook Islands: Mii, Vainiu and Dr Dawn. Their descriptions of the fear of Covid-19, the suppression of their Māori language, their medical needs in such a remote location and the current depopulation through emigration were both moving and inspirational.
Our organist was Jeremy Cooke who played a variety of hymns and songs, two of which were composed specially by Cook Islanders. Thank you.
The hour of prayer was attended by Watford’s Deputy Mayor, Aga Dychton, and the Town Centre Chaplain, Geert Tap. It was lovely to chat with members of other Watford churches over a cup of tea and some delicious refreshments afterwards.
The wave of prayer rolled onwards to ‘our friends beneath the western sky’, until some 120 countries had used the same service to inspire their prayers during a 36-hour period.
Next year we shall be led by Christian women in Nigeria. Do join us.
Mary Bowen
