On Sunday 9th November, the uniformed organisations joined the congregation for a parade service.
During his talk, Neil Brookes, Youth Director, played a moving short soundtrack of the moment the guns fell silent when the First World War ended. The soundtrack was recreated by the Imperial War Museum from an actual trace of sound vibrations on photographic paper made on the battlefield. A snippet from the trace (pictured) showed that the guns fell silent at exactly 11am on 11th November 1918.

Neil challenged us to consider how we use the 2-minute silence at commemorative events. He suggested that a good way to honour those who have sacrificed their lives for peace is to actively ask God to restore our hearts, let go of anger towards others and seek God‘s healing, peace and love, and to pray that we would seek to extend God’s love, peace and good news to everyone we meet.
